Recent evidence has shown significant improvements in outcomes of patients who are physically active both during and after cancer treatment. 70% of people who have cancer, have at least one other long term condition. Rehabilitation programmes are provided for other chronic conditions, e.g. Chronic Heart Diease, Diabetes and Respiratory conditions such as COPD, have been shown to be effective (Hoffman et al. 2016).

A Nuffield Trust evaluation (2014) showed that 15 months after diagnosis, compared to a population of the same age/gender, people with cancer had:

  • 60% more A&E attendances
  • 97% more emergency admissions
  • 50% more primary care contacts

Enhancing people’s physical rehabilitation aims to improve these statistics

Aoife was involved in setting up this vital service when she worked in the hospital setting, and is leading the initiative here at Total Physio.

This free information evening is open to anyone who has received a Cancer diagnosis, or anyone who has a family member or friend who has had a Cancer diagnosis. Based on the interest generated by this evening, we aim to start group exercise classes for cancer survivors will be starting in early 2019.

We can also assess your individual needs while awaiting start of treatment, during treatment or post treatment. We can design individualised programmes to help improve your health and functional ability, if a group exercise class is not for you.

Please see recent media coverage of this important topic making a very strong case for exercise to be a standard part of Cancer care for all patients as it can improve quality of life - Click Here
