Post Race Recovery

We had a great day at the Great Ireland Run yesterday. We dealt with tight IT bands, buttocks in spasm, several acute tendinitis of the patellar tendon under the kneecap and even a severe calf tear at the 3km mark. There is so much build-up to a race, that alot of people forget to properly plan their recovery.

Runners Knee

Don’t get bamboozled on the internet when you look up your symptoms…..you’ll see talk of patellofemoral pain syndrome, chondromalacia patella, peripatellar pain, retropatellar pain, anterior knee pain and of course, the umbrella term of runners’ knee….. All these terms describe the same injury - a gradual onset of vague pain around the patella (kneecap) area

Who We Work With

Jenny worked with the FAI from 2006 - 2017 and was Team Physiotherapist for the Irish Women's National Team. She travelled extensively with squads for European competition and World Cup Qualifiers attending all their camps and games across Ireland, Europe and in the US. Now she is a huge fan of the team as they continue their journey towards qualification for a major tournament.....#COYGIG

Jenny was a regular contributor to the Mooney Show on RTE Radio 1 from 2008 until the show changed it's format in 2015. During that time she discussed many physiotherapy issues live on air, answered callers into the show, went out with their roving reporters talking to taxi-drivers about their aches, and even hosted an entire show on Low Back pain.

One of the highlights of her time on the show was leading a team of fantastic women to complete the Women's mini-marathon and coming over the finish line while speaking to Derek live on air! Jenny was delighted to feature on the Mooney App offering safe pilates exercise information for mums to be. This is still available to download for free through the media section of the Mooney app, or you can view it below.

Jenny discovered Bootcamp Ireland as a Mummy Bootcamper getting fit again after the birth of her second baby Holly. Total Physio has since joined forces with them to promote injury prevention on their Physio Files page. Total Physio became the MummyPages.ie Physio expert in 2014 to actively promote injury prevention and awareness in pregnant and postnatal women. Many women put pregnancy aches and pains down to just being pregnant, but it is vital to deal with these promptly as your bump grows, so you'll be fit and able to enjoy this unique time in your life.

We Proudly co-sponsor the Twilight Team Challenge In Sandyford Business District - for the 4th Year running.

With over 700 entries, the 4th year of the Sandyford 5k was a roaring success!

We contributed injury prevention tips and advice on building up strength in advance of the run, helped those with niggles who needed us in the clinic, and were there on the night to cheer them all on. Aoife represented us well with a fantastic time of 24 minutes; well done Aoife!
